Hi Beth,

Congratulations on the new job. This is excellent.

EMR access is a big issue for our Division and as being worked on by the NFB
legal folks - if problems exist they need to be contacted.

I have worked at my mental health facility for over 10 years and the
electronic medical records are only now coming on-line. Unfortunately, the
recoreds are, largely, not accessible. The local blind services office has
engaged a JAWS scripter to help, but JAWS doesn't work very well with the
screens offered, so, now we are working with Window-Eyes and the verdict is
still out. My facility, being a large hospital, is at long last aware of my
issue as a hospital problem, not soley as my problem, but a real solution is
not yet clear.

At this time all of my documentation is written in MS Word documents,
printed out and then scanned into the hospital's system by support staff.

I trust that your creativity and the CMHC's flexability will find a workable
solution for you.

Subject: [humanser] Excess ability question regarding JavaScript
andelectronic medical record

Hello all,
I have recently accepted a job offer at a community mental health agency. I
went down today to test jaws with their electronic medical system. It turns
out that their system is written in Java script. I believe cobalt and Java
were also used. The problem is the jaws will read none of the screens on
their electronic medical record system. My question: is there any screen
reading software out there that will work with JavaScript? My other option
is a reasonable accommodation is to ask for a reader scribe to help with
reading electronic charts and documentation. Along the same lines, I know
that sharp desk will extract text from images. Is there any kind of software
that might be able to extract the text from the JavaScript screen or any
kind of iPhone app I can read the screen with. I know I'll still need help
documenting the least I could try to read the charts that way.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you,
Beth Sent from my iPhone
