[nfbcs] Career Fairs and Conventions

There is nothing wrong with someone leading you around. Often, in venues
like this, it is too crowded to move around on your own, even if you are
within range of where you are trying to go. I would try to arrange for help
ahead of time. Is the group just a group of students, or is it some kind of
official group?

     When I am in the situation of dealing with a large exhibit hall, I do
the following:

1. Get a directory and go through it making note of the companies I want to
see. 
2. Exhibit halls are laid out in a pattern, and it is important to
understand the layout. A reader may need to explain the layout to you. This
will help you organize your travel.
3. If necessary, I would use a reader to get me within one or two booths of
where I wanted to be. You can then get to the booth, make contact without it
looking like you need to be led around. Arrange to meet the reader further
along the row.
4. I would suggest practicing on some companies your aren't interested in,
so you can refine your technique.

Hi

I am legally blind. How do handle large gathering like conventions? I will
be attending the Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing. Part of it
is a huge career fair. How to you deal with things like that when you can't
see the banner for what company is at the booth? These situations are what I
find most difficult about being legally blind. There is a group from my
school going but everyone has their own agenda and I don't know any of them
well enough to hang out with and have them be my eyes.

There are far too many booths to approach every one of them.
