[Colorado-Talk] Fwd: Event Invitation: Concert in the Dark with Diane Schuur

Hi all –

I got this email about AIN Colorado's concert in the dark last week
because I follow AINC on Face Book. Asking people to wear blindfolds
to watch performers is not okay. Nobody would wear black face in 2023.
Nobody would get in a wheelchair in 2023 and roll around for a day to
see how the “crips” live (pejorative intended). Disability simulations
are not at all cool anymore. But apparently it’s still chic in 2023 to
tell people to wear a blindfold for an hour or two so they can
better experience a concert or, a dinner in the dark. Bad enough that
AIN Colorado is doing this, but more importantly, Rocky Mountain PBS
and KUVO Jazz are lending their names to this embarrassment.

Well, I got this and I clicked the “Not interested” button. I invite
you to do the same if you got this on FB or in your email.

The thing is, though, if people do this at an evening concert, half of
them are going right to sleep! Diane Schuur definitely deserves better
than a theater full of snoring sighted people!

Concert in the Dark with Diane Schuur
Get ready for a unique and immersive musical experience! AINC, Rocky
Mountain PBS and KUVO Radio are proud to present Concert in the Dark
with Diane Schuur.
Experience the thrill of being blindfolded during a live performance
by Multi-Grammy-Winning artist, Diane Schuur, and supporting act Heart
N' Soul. The absence of visual stimuli allows you to fully focus on
the music and appreciate the intricate details of each piece. What
makes this event even more special is that all of the supporting
artists are blind themselves!
This event supports the Audio Information Network of Colorado, a
nonprofit that serves Coloradans who are blind or print-impaired. So,
not only will you enjoy a memorable musical experience, but you will
also be supporting a great cause.
