Great letter. Remember, if they are not part of the solution, they are part
of the problem.

Colleagues,
The following letter is self explanatory.
August 21, 2012
Ms. Becky Godbey
Vice President of Career Development Services
Goodwill Industries of Upstate/Midlands SC
115 Haywood Road Greenville, SC 29607
Dear Ms. Godbey:
At your request, Ed Bible spoke with me and forwarded your email containing
The Subject "Additional information to share", which you sent this morning.
Along with your email, you sent an attached statement from the CEO of
Goodwill Industries of Upstate/Midlands SC, Inc, Mr. Patrick Michaels.
While I appreciate the work of GIUMSC, I am afraid we are at odds regarding
the value (or lack thereof) of Section 14C of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
The National Federation of the Blind of South Carolina (NFB of SC) will be
conducting six informational demonstrations at or near Goodwill stores in
Myrtle Beach, Sumter, Columbia, Aiken, Camden, and Greenville between the
hours of 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM this Saturday, August 25, 2012, in an effort
to increase public awareness of the unfair, discriminatory, and immoral
practice of paying subminimum wages to disabled workers.
Unlike GIUMSC, I do not see value in the practice of exploiting disabled
workers so that their employers can turn a higher profit. It is not
sufficient to say GIUMSC does not pay disabled workers subminimum wages but
in the same correspondence declare that there is value in such an outrageous
practice. If GIUMSC would reverse its position with respect to Section 14C
of the Fair Labor Standards Act, I believe we could find common ground.
Very sincerely,
Parnell Diggs, President
National Federation of the Blind of South Carolina
