Dear Connecticut Federation Family,
In these times of uncertainty, it is important to remember that we are not the only living beings experiencing the consequences of quarantine and subsequent social withdrawal and changes to our daily routine; many of us also have four-legged companions to take care of as well. Their needs are as essential as our own.
As such, I have worked tirelessly to create a community through social media outlets, such as Facebook, for guide dog handlers in the state of Connecticut to share resources, stories of success, challenges, and everything in between. I would like to extend an invitation to all Connecticut NFB members to attend a virtual meet up next Tuesday, from 5:00 to 6:00 PM. I hope that our members can be present on the call to provide their perspective, Network with other handlers who may not be NFB members as of yet, ask questions, and take note of the latest COVID-19 News and tips that ensure the longevity of our guide dogs' physical and mental health. We will be discussing stress relieving techniques, such as giving a proper doggy massage, how to stay on top of dog food supply despite delivery delays and shortages, teaching new tricks, and engaging in regular exercise, even if that looks different within isolation. If you are interested in joining the meet up, or would like to request information on additional topics, please RSVP to macarney97 at gmail.com. I will then provide you with the call information. The number of participants will ultimately determine which platform we use. I hope you will choose to take advantage of this opportunity to connect with others, and learn about a multitude of ways to stay busy and optimistic.
Best,
Melissa
