The CT Association of Guide Dog Users are continuing the celebration of
international guide dog week. Today we’ll be hearing from Maddie Babcock
about what having a guide dog has meant to her -
I got my first guide dog at 16, I didn’t realize how much my life would
change by having a Guide dog. There’s definitely been ups and downs and
going through my junior and senior year with a guide dog was definitely
interesting. My guide dog has given me so much independence and most
importantly confidence. Being able to navigate independently doesn’t mean
much without the confidence to do so. I thought I was a confident traveler
before I got a guide dog but with my dog I am able to pay more attention to
the small things and enjoy the environment around me instead of focusing on
all the tactile feedback. I’ve been able to have the confidence to go on so
many adventures because of my guide dog and am so grateful.
