I've ben on both sides.  Been the handler with the growling dog and been in th presence of a dog displaying exactly (actually allmost exactly, to be accurate) the same behaviior as my growling dog.  It was not fun in either situation.  But it was especially not fun as the handler wiht the growling dog.  I not only had to be very aware of where my dog was, but I also had to be aware of where the other dogs who were near him were sistuated.  Ultimately, wiht tremendous support from The Seeing Eye, I made the appropriate decision to retire him.  

I felt fo r the handler in whose presence I was with her growling dog.  She was struggling wiht the same issues of denial and that understandable determination to get the problem to go away.  Like me, she put her heart and soul into trying to get the problems resolved, but like me, she ultimately had to retire that dog.  I tried to help her understand that she needed to know when it was time to keep on trying and when it was time to say I have done all I can.  She was not realdy to hear that yet, and I got that.  There was a time when I was as equally not ready to hear it either.
