Hello All,

Friends Annual Meeting
October 26, 2024
9:30 AM

You are cordially invited to attend our meeting. This year, we have the
privilege of welcoming two keynote speakers to the Library for the Blind
and Print Disabled (LBPD).
You will learn interesting facts from Cindy Freeland, who has written ten
children’s books about one of Maryland’s great treasures, the Chesapeake
Bay. Did you know that oysters are known as the vacuum cleaner for the bay?
She uses animals that inhabit the bay to tell its stories. You will be able
to tell that she loves animals from her presentation and will delight in
hearing about these books.
Our second keynote speaker will be Eric Thomas. Eric is a syndicated advice
columnist for the Washington Post and the Baltimore Sun, as well as many
other newspapers. You can ask him for his advice if you wish or ask him a
question about how you could become an advice columnist. He is the author
of several books, many of which are on BARD. Here for It: Or, How to Save
Your Soul in America, is a series of essays about his life experiences as a
black gay Christian man. Kings of B’More is a novel about two friends who
embark on an adventure in Baltimore. I am sure that he will pique your
curiosity and spark your enjoyment.
Learn about what Friends has been up to during the past year. Meet the new
state librarian, Morgan Miller, and learn about her plans for the future of
libraries in Maryland. Help us recognize LBPD’s wonderful volunteers, enjoy
lunch, and you might even win a door prize!

Reservations are required by October 18. When you contact us, please say
whether you are coming in person or on Zoom.

The National Federation of the Blind of Maryland knows that blindness is
not the characteristic that defines you or your future. Everyday we raise
the expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles
between blind people and our dreams. You can live the life you want;
blindness is not what holds you back.
