Subject: Legislative alert

Joe,

Can you please forward the following announcement pertaining to the new
stimulus package and the Individuals with Disabilities Act?

Thanks and take care,

   Ryan

Greetings New Jersey Federationists,

Back on March 19, I had forwarded a legislative alert stating that there was
an amendment, introduced by Senator Lamar Alexander of Tennessee, in the
covid-19 stimulus package which would have waived provisions of the
Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) for at least a year. I am
happy to announce that the amendment was not part of the final bill that was
signed into law over the weekend. This means that K-12 students with
disabilities will continue to receive the protections and services provided
by IDEA. Thank you to all who made calls to the Senate to get the amendment
removed.

Take care,

   Ryan
