2022 NFB Washington Seminar Priorities

Once again the NFB and affiliates will present four Washington Seminar
priorities and a brief description is listed below. For additional and the
most up to date information please visit the national link.

*1. Access Technology Affordability Act (H.R. 431)**:* The cost of
critically needed access technology is out of reach for most blind
Americans. By providing a refundable tax credit for qualifying purchases,
Congress will stimulate individual procurement of this technology and
promote affordability of these tools.

*2. Medical Device Nonvisual Accessibility Act (H.R. 4853)**:* Advanced
digital interfaces create barriers that prevent blind individuals from
independently and safely operating home-use medical devices that are
essential to their daily healthcare needs. Congress must end the digital
divide that threatens the independence and safety of blind Americans by
developing minimum accessibility requirements for these devices.

*3. Twenty-First Century Website and Application Accessibility Act: *Websites
are required by law to be accessible, but without implementing regulations,
most businesses and retailers have little understanding of what accessible
means. More than 313 million Americans, including a vast majority of the 40
million who have a disability, use the Internet and mobile apps. Congress
can end website and mobile app inaccessibility for blind Americans.

*4.* *Transformation to Competitive Integrated Employment Act (H.R.
2373): *Section 14(c) of the Fair Labor Standards Act allows employers to
discriminate against workers with disabilities by authorizing them to be
paid subminimum wages. Also, the work is often mundane tasks that do not
transfer into better employment options. Congress needs to remove
artificial barriers to competitive employment opportunities.
