Dear Members and Friends of the National Federation of the Blind of New
Jersey,
I am proud to share that the April issue of the *Braille Monitor*, the
flagship publication of the National Federation of the Blind, features an
article highlighting a powerful advocacy victory right here in New Jersey.
*Read the article here:* New Jersey's Blind Refused to Be Collateral Damage
(HTML) <https://nfb.org/images/nfb/publications/bm/bm26/bm2604/bm260408.htm>
Titled *“New Jersey’s Blind Refused to Be Collateral Damage,”* this piece
tells the story of how our affiliate responded swiftly and decisively to a
serious threat to blindness services within our state. When a proposed
directive risked destabilizing the New Jersey Commission for the Blind and
Visually Impaired (CBVI) by forcing the resignation of critical staff, we
acted immediately.
Within hours, we organized. Within days, we mobilized. Through coordinated
advocacy, formal resolution, and unified action, we secured the rescission
of the directive, protecting essential services that blind New Jerseyans
rely on for independence, education, and employment.
This article is not just a recap of events—it is a testament to what
organized blind people can accomplish when we act with urgency, clarity,
and unity.
We encourage you to read and share this article widely. It reflects the
strength of our movement and reinforces an important truth: *blind people
must always have a seat at the table when decisions that affect our lives
are made.*
Thank you for being part of this work and for continuing to stand together
as we build a stronger future for blind New Jerseyans.
Warmly,
Linda Melendez, President
