Hello:
If you have not yet been introduced to the 1Touch Self Defense Project for the Blind we would like to share the benefits that can be gained from the program. For additional information about 1Touch please email info at 1touchproject.com. Further documentation/references can be provided upon request.
The program was designed for the blind but is proven accessible and beneficial for numerous demographics deaf, deaf/blind, children, seniors, veterans and people who are multi-disabled.
There are many benefits beyond safety that come from the program, greater communication skills, increased confidence and independence, spatial awareness and O&M skills just to name a few. Various state agencies/schools for the disabled and private organizations for the blind have seen the results from the 1Touch and are implementing it into their curriculum and scheduling training.
Some of these include:
MO School for the Blind
OK School for the Blind
Seattle Lighthouse
Louisiana Lighthouse
Louisiana Center for the Blind
NE Commission for the Blind
Anyone can become a 1Touch Coach it is beneficial to both individuals, organizations and training programs serving people who are blind. The program can be implemented into independent living activities, voc and social rehabilitation, O&M, youth and seniors activities, day or residential settings.
1touch is having a Coaching Certification Course at the Virginia Rehabilitation Center for the Blind and Vision Impaired (VRCBVI) at 401 Azalea Avenue, Richmond, VA 23227, October 23-25, and the pre-registration deadline is Sept 4th. A 50% deposit is due at this time in the amount of $300.
The total cost to become a certified 1Touch coach is $600 that includes:
1. 2.5 days of intensive training
2. 16.75 ACVREP CE hours
3. Audio described DVD
4. Instructors Manual/Sample Curriculum
5. Support/Forum/Discussion
6. 6 month final review
