[Pibe-division] Dumb Question

Carlton,
One reason a teacher may do this is if she is modifying the braille. For instance, if a student knows a few contractions. We want to encourage reading and reinforce the contractions learned. For a short book instead of downloading the brf file or scanning it we will simply have our paraprofessional type the book or in our case the weekly decodable readers and we will only braille the contractions he/she knows and maybe one or two that are coming up. This is a time saver for us although it may seem like it takes longer. If I can find the book on TSBVI in a dxb file I will usually skip step one.

Subject: [Pibe-division] Dumb Question
Hi all,
I have a dumb question, but here goes . . .
How difficult is it to get a good braille hard copy from a Bookshare BRF file?
I'm asking because we have waited almost an entire week to get a braille hard copy of a Cam Jansen book from the school. an aide was typing in the print (don't know why they can't scan, but there you go) and the TVI was translating using Duxbury and printing to a Juliet on-site. I just looked up the book and found that the BRF (and the Daisy) files are available from Bookshare. Is there a good reason to type the whole thing in instead of using a Bookshare file? should I assume that the teacher didn't look for the Bookshare file? (She has her own account, as does my daughter).
If possible, I'd really like to know before I speak to her this afternoon when I pick Anna Catherine up from school.
Please feel free to email or call me directly.
I truly appreciate your wisdom on this matter (and others, of course).
Take care,
Carlton
