[Trainer-talk] Trainer-talk Digest, Vol 110, Issue 12

On the SD cards, I had several that I used with my Victor Stream, before I started using my phone for everything, and I just used a zip up case. I then put premade braille letters, (they had raised print and Braille, above each opening to designate just what was on the card such as B for books and M for music and C for church stuff such as scriptures. It worked quite well. Though my little holder would actually hold the cases they come in, I found it less bothersome to do away with them and just put the card in the little slots. Those letters came from ILA (Independent Living Aids).

It has worked pretty well for the school districts I work with to tell the students to always leave the SD card in the device. For the most part, teachers and staff are the only ones who remove it.

One lady keeps her SD cards in a ziplock bag with a large print paper that tells her what is on the card.

I would suggest keeping the card in the machine unless there is any reason not to keep it their. The small square case it is packaged in, can be lost very easily.

All,

I was recently provided a device that requires a SD card and the size concerns me. Beside those tiny plastic cases they often come in what are you advising students to do to keep up with them?

I've asked around about a case but could not come up with an answer. I appreciate your suggestions.

Thanks,

Michelle

I remember buying an SD card case from our Utah affiliate of the National Federation of the Blind. It holds ten sd cards. It's about 6 inches long and 3 inches high. Each card has a separate compartment with a flip top.
Our state president there is Everette Bacon. His email address is baconev at yahoo.com.

I hope this helps.

I also keep them in the machine. They all look alike, and it is disconcerting to get somewhere with the wrong one.

I'm not a user of Google's apps so I can't offer any further comments or additional support beyond what is in this article. From theNextWeb ...

Google today announced a major accessibility update to Google Drive as well as Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drawings, and Forms. Specifically designed with blind and low-vision users in mind, the improvements include an improved screen reader and Braille display, as well as phone support.
First up, the updated screen reader support includes better text-to-voice verbalization and improvements to keyboard navigation. You should also notice:
? Support for alt text on images in Docs, so you can tell a screen reader what they should say to describe an image.
? Better support for using a keyboard to edit charts and pivot tables in Sheets.
? Additional screen reader improvements specifically for Docs, Sheets and Slides, including support for spelling suggestions, comments and revision history.
? The ability to quickly search the menus and perform actions in Docs, Slides and Drawings (and soon Sheets and Forms)?even if you don?t know the action?s key sequence.
omnibox Google updates Drive and Docs with improved screen reader, Braille display, and accessibility phone support Screen readers will now also announce when people enter or leave the document, and you?ll hear when others are editing alongside you.
Everyone should now be able to determine when they are collaborating in real time.
Next up, refreshable Braille display support has been added: not only can you read and enter text in Docs, Slides and Drawings with the device, but your screen reader?s settings for character echoing are automatically followed. Braille also cuts down on the lag between when you press a key and when it?s announced by your screen reader, plus it improves the announcements of punctuation and whitespace.
Speaking of screen readers and Braille displays, Google now offers step-by-step guides for each of its apps: Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms and Drawings. If you need in-product advice, just access the ?Help? menu at any time or use the updated shortcut help dialog to easily search through keyboard shortcuts.

This week, Apple released version 11.4 of iTunes. According to their Web site, the primary addition is support for devices running iOS8. By the end of next week, I predict there'll be quite a lot of those floating about. <smile> If you plan on using iOS8 on your iDevice, this is an update which, if it hasn't already downloaded and installed, should be ... well, downloaded and installed.
