The purpose of the NFB

collective action by the blind of the nation; to function as a mechanism
through which the blind and interested sighted persons can come together in
local, state, and national meetings to plan and carry out programs to

action for parents of blind children; to promote the vocational, cultural,
and social advancement of the blind; to achieve the integration of the
blind into society on a basis of equality with the sighted; and to take any
other action which will improve the overall condition and standard of

     I pledge to participate actively in the efforts of the National
Federation of the Blind; to achieve equality, opportunity, and security for
the blind; to support the policies and programs of the Federation; and to
abide by its Constitution.



3. National Federation of the Blind Belief Message:

    The National Federation of the Blind advances the lives of its members
and all blind people in the United States. We know that blindness is not
the characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise the
expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles
between blind people and our dreams. Our collective power, determination,
and diversity achieve the aspirations of all blind people.
