Awesome!

Yes, we can never have enough people with this kind of spirit!

If we can all converge on the author of this bill, it sounds like she is open to removing Guide dogs from the bill.. Her legislative aide told me yesterday that guide dogs were not even included in the original bill proposal.

She told me on Twitter that she will call me on Monday. I may be the legislative coordinator of the organized Blind movement in Connecticut, but I am only one voice.

If our members are able to call Senator Bartolomeo's legislative aide, Sue Driscoll, and let her know that we want guide dogs removed from the bill, this will encourage her to take it more seriously and do it more quickly.

The phone number which I have used is

(860) 240-0441

You can ask for Sue Driscoll in Senator Bartolomeo's office.

Let's go stick up for our fellow blind people in Connecticut!

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out-
Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out-
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out-
Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me-and there was no one left to speak for me.

Hello All,

I have gone one step further trying to get guide dogs removed from this bill. I emailed my letter to Senator Brendan Sharkey, Speaker of the House, Senator Martin M. Looney, President Pro Tempore and Governor Malloy.

We really need everyone to step up and at least write their local representatives and senators. Whether you are a guide dog handler or not. We are all blind. I wrote letters regarding sub minimum wage and jobs being threatened in State parks. I get paid more than minimum wage and I do not work in a state park but I am blind and therefore I support my fellow citizens in their struggle. Now as a guide dog user I ask for your support in removing guide dogs from a bill that could dramatically affect my future way of procuring a dog.

Thank you,

Maryanne Melley
