There is no exercise more beneficial than reaching out to uplift others.
Everybody wins because there is validated evidence that helping others can
have a positive effect on your own mental health and well-being. This
month’s call will feature guest speakers who will provide information on a
variety of volunteer and community service activities, some that you can do
right from your home. You will also hear from peers who are achieving a
sense of purpose and satisfaction, building their self-confidence, and
meeting new people, by giving back to the community and making a
difference.

*Host: Krystle Allen*, CBVI Community Outreach Specialist

*Keynote: *

*Rowena Madden, Executive Director, Governor’s Office on Volunteerism*

Will provide information on how the State of New Jersey can assist people
who are interested in getting involved and making a difference.

*Other Guest Panelists: *

*CJ Dodge, Social and Recreation Coordinator, Alliance Center for
Independence (ACI)*

Will discuss the NJ Disability Pride Movement and Annual Celebration; how
listeners can get involved and also participate in other advocacy and
recreational activities sponsored by ACI.

*Yolanda Keahey, Girl Scout Leader and Literacy Volunteer *

Will discuss her volunteer experiences and how her efforts to make a
difference inspired her to further her education.

*Tonya Hunt, CEO and Founder of “We See Too: Living Life Without Limits,
Inc.” *

Will discuss the activities of her peer support group and how becoming an
advocate and peer support group leader changed her life.

*Bryant Patton, The Outsiders Peer-Support Group *

Will talk about his efforts to promote White Cane Safety Day and sensitize
first responders to what it means to be blind.
